Beauty and the Beast Costume Suggestions

Costume Suggestions

ALL STUDENTS must prepare the VILLAGERS costume except for: Beast, Belle, Gaston, Lefou, Maurice, Cogsworth, Lumiere, Babette, Mrs. Potts, Chip and Madame de la Grande Bouche.

Villagers:

  • ·            Boys: Neutral or soft colored pants & shirts with ties, vests of jackets to create the period look.
  • ·            Girls: Neutral or soft colored blouses, skirts, aprons and laced vests; layering multiple skirts will also create a nice effect.

(Here's one in brown for $20 if you're interested!)

*If you are also a servant / utensil, the servant base costume should be worn beneath the villager costume.

*I’d also like to encourage appropriate accessories; perhaps gloves, hats, handbags (you can be an aristocratic patron) or a cane? perhaps a basket (of candles? Fake eggs? Flowers?)

You can be as creative as you’d like! Please just confirm with Mrs. J & Mrs. H so we can make it work. J

Below are a few pictures for inspiration!

Narrators: Simple, coordinated clothing as villagers.

Wolves: Solid grey top, solid grey bottom. If there’s any parent that is available to help us create ears, tails and masks, please let us know!

Servants/ Flatware:Solid Grey top, solid grey bottom. Long sleeves & long pants are preferred. (Sweatpants are okay, as long as they are not baggy.) Please NO WORDS on the shirt or pants. Any shade of grey will be fine. *This BASE costume will be worn under the villagers costumes.

Old Beggar Woman/Enchantress: Large black hooded cape & a floor length dress under cape. (Please see me if you can’t find a floor length dress, I maybe able to fashion something)

Beast/Prince: A Prince-like uniform with furry gloves, hood & wig (brown curly) as possible.

Belle: Bright blue dress with apron, golden ball gown, a giant bow, and a cape as possible. J Mrs. Whitsett, I know you’ve got it covered, can’t wait to see it!

Maurice: Oversized peasant shirt, plaid knickers and a large vest. Tall argyle socks or tights can be worn with black shoes. Also needs a bright scarf (Preferably red), and a graying wig or silver sprayed on hair if possible. He may also need an oversized overall or shirt with lab goggles for when he’s working on his invention!

Gaston: A red tunic-type, form-fitting vest (or a giant V neck red shirt) over a yellow collared shirt with a wide belt & a pair of high-cuffed boots.  Stuffing the shirt to create muscles would be fun! Consider taping on fake hair on the chest, maybe? J

LeFou: Jacket with a vest and a collared shirt. A large ridiculous bow tied around his collar to add to his comedic look. Knickers and tights or long pants and boots will work well.

Cogsworth: Decorate all sides of an appliance box and attach elastic shoulder straps. Cut off the back or sides so there’s flexibility for movement. Under it, she can wear a long full white shirt with lacey cuffs, a stylized vest, a necktie, solid-color knickers and white tall socks or tights. If possible, a baroque style wig would be great too! (This way, when she turns back into a human, she’ll just have to take the box off)

Lumiere: The hands & hat can be made with gold paper (from Michaels) and tan insulating foam sealant. The fire can be made easily with construction paper.

His outfit is simple. The more gold, the better. Gold vest? Gold pants? Gold bow tie?

If gold isn’t easy to find, something like this would be great too!

Babette: A black dress with an apron and feathers attached on the bottom. Pretty make up & heels could dress it up, for sure! Maybe a feather duster to complete the look?

Mrs. Potts: We can’t wait to see it!

Chip: Simple button down shirt and blue pants with white stockings under it. The cup can be fashioned out of a hoop, covered with fabric and attached with elastic.

Madame de la grande bouche: We can’t wait to see it! But in case you haven’t made one yet, What do you think of something like this?? I believe this can easily be fashioned out of 2 cardboard pieces, connected with a strap that’s attached around the shoulders. This would also make it easy to transition into human form.

When she turns human, she should wear a nice floor length dress if possible! J

Monsieur D’arque: Layers of black: Long jacket or tails, black pants, ascot and black hat.
